Christmas made easy with Heart to Home

Christmas made easy with Heart to Home

With only 40 days (or “sleeps” as our children would say!) until Christmas, it’s time to get thinking about gifts, decorations and table dressings.

Christmas is a wonderful time of year if, like us, you love making your home as gorgeous and welcoming as possible. In December, the home really comes into its own, providing not just a backdrop but an integral part of family gatherings, parties, meals and celebrations.

Here at Heart to Home we specialise in bringing you the loveliest items for the home, from dining room linens to kitchen crockery and everything in between. Since we opened our shop in Wetherby, West Yorkshire, we’ve been able to source even more wonderful items from British designers many of whom hand-craft, embroider and hand-paint the things you’ll find in our shop.

The shop will soon be decorated for Christmas, with a colourful window display in the bow window of our Georgian building, and the famous Heart to Home dining table dressed for Christmas Day. Away from the shop, the Heart to Home website is packed with Christmas gifts, matching sets and desirable items which are crying out to be given to friends and family. And, don’t forget, all items bought from our shop or website come wrapped in pretty pink tissue paper and for just £2, we’ll hand-wrap your item in a gold gift box with a cream and gold heart-embossed ribbon – perfect for gifts! The shop will be open 7 days a week throughout December so, if you’re in Wetherby, do pop in at 1b Church Street!

We thought you might find it useful if we listed what we think will be the most popular, sought-after items this Christmas, so you can jump the queue and make sure you give gifts which really delight your loved-ones!

British designer Sophie Allport’s range of lovely mugs make wonderful gifts. We’ve got loads in stock, and new for Winter 2012 are her range of dog-themed cups and mugs. Our pick of the bunch for Christmas gifts are “Walkies!” and “Sit!”, perfect for dog-lovers or anyone who enjoys the great outdoors.

Hand-picked kitchen sets
More and more customers are asking us to help them put together bespoke sets of items and we think this is a great idea for a gift. How about using an animal as your theme? We’d suggest our chickens apron, a chickens jug and mug and finally a chickens teatowel. Or you could have similar items in our popular Busy Bees range. What a lovely gift!

Tea cosies
Yes, tea cosies are very popular at this time of year and we think our owl tea cosy or cat tea cosy would make the most wonderful gift (to suit any budget).

Animal kitchen items
We stock a great deal of crockery, aprons and tea towels with animal prints and themes, and that’s simply because they are so very popular! They fly off the shelves at the Wetherby shop, are very popular online on the Heart to Home website and are always a hit when we exhibit at shows. We think our range of items with Busy Bees, chickens and dogs would make wonderful Christmas presents for animal lovers. Mr Pickles, the Heart to Home cat certainly approves. What do you think?

As for us? Well, we’ve already got the oven gloves, aprons and tea towels, so all we want for Christmas is for someone else to do the cooking for us! We can hope… 🙂

Do head over to Heart to Home the website (or, if you’re in Wetherby, pop into the shop). We’ll be happy to help you hand-select the loveliest Christmas gifts (and maybe a little something for yourself…)

All the latest from interiors shop and website Heart to Home

There’s plenty going on behind the scenes here at Heart to Home: preparing our stand for the BBC Good Food Show, moving the Heart to Home shop full of kitchen and crockery items from Ripon to the heart of Wetherby, and putting together our very first catalogue of lovely things for the home, which is chock-full of the most beautiful interiors and homeware supplies. Don’t worry, Mr Pickles the Heart to Home cat doesn’t need to move a whisker (he lives at home with Margaret).

We thought it was the perfect time to sit down with a hot cuppa (in one of our new Susie Watson mugs, of course) and bring you a round-up of some of the most sought-after homemade house items we stock both online and on the high street.

Our doorstops are always a real hit, both at shows like Burghley Horse Trials, spring fairs and food and home shows like the BBC Good Food Show. We stock this lovely goose doorstop, who is very appealing, and this lovely hedgehog doorstop who continues to confound Margaret with his popularity.

We also stock a lot of handmade items such as crockery, mugs and jugs, in particular our ranges from Susie Watson Designs. These fly off the shelves whenever we take them to shows and are just as popular in our Heart to Home shop.

Our animal prints, patterns and designs (on linens, crockery and fine china) are always popular and we are constantly adding quality items to our Animal Farm range. Take a look: amongst the cups, mugs, jugs, crockery, napkins and linens you’ll find black labradors, terriers, owls, bees, butterflies, chickens, sheep, bumblebees, horses and cats. Something for every animal-lover out there (and we know you’re all big fans of Mr Pickles… !)

The final category we’d like to highlight is our aprons. We stock a staggering number of aprons (we know exactly how staggering, since we’ve recently had to think about moving them all to Wetherby!) in every conceivable style, look and theme. There are frilly kids aprons, cooking aprons for kids, aprons for little boys (and big boys too!), bold patterned aprons, floral aprons, frilly aprons for women, and no-nonsense serious aprons for baking, barbequeing and cooking up a storm.

This is far from an exhaustive list of everything we stock for the home, kitchen and dining room here at Heart to Home, but we hope it gives you an insight into the most popular products we stock. Although Margaret says she’ll never understand the appeal of that hedgehog doorstop! We have to disagree….

Do head over to the website (or the shop) and keep in touch with us on Twitter and Facebook for all the latest news.

Heart to Home exhibit at Burghley Horse Trials 2012

Heart to Home exhibit at Burghley Horse Trials 2012

heart to home shop at burghley horse trials

Good morning! We’re just back from the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials where we were once again exhibiting within the Country Living Pavilion. What a weekend! We love this event: it’s usually the final “country” show of the year for us and a really exciting, fun and energetic crowd. This year was no different. Were you there? If so, we hope you had a fantastic time. If not, we hope our round up of pictures and stories will give you a flavour of what it’s like to visit Burghley. And perhaps we’ll see you there next year?

The Country Living Pavilion was home to lots of independent British designers and artisans, and we think our stand (and our ethos) fitted right in. As you know, we love to stock gorgeous designs and products for the home, from beautiful prints and linens to the loveliest ceramics and pottery. This year, we decided to give our stand a new focus, with our Susie Watson kitchen and dining room products taking centre stage. They went down very well! Sandra did a fantastic job not only of designing the stand but of actually putting it together, using Susie Watson fabric and pretty “British Summer” touches. We made sure to take lots of horse and dog-themed items with us, like this lovely horse mug and our black labrador ceramics range, which always go down a treat with the Burghley crowd!

The stand looked wonderful, very in keeping with the show, and everyone who visited seemed to enjoy spending time with us. We had some great feedback about the stand and the items we’d brought with us. In fact, some of the items were so well-received that we had to put in an emergency order at the end of the first day so we could restock

Now Burghley is over, we won’t be exhibiting at another show until November (The Good Food Show). But we won’t be resting on our laurels: we’ve got our first catalogue to finish off (it really is looking fantastic, and we can’t wait to send it out to you in the post or give it to you in the shop), and of course we are moving home! Our relocation to Wetherby is almost complete, so there will be lots of exciting work to do on the shop before our grand opening.

You can keep in touch with us here on the blog, or via Heart to Home on Twitter and Heart to Home on Facebook for more news, information and photos. Thanks for reading.

Website (and shop) changes for Heart to Home

Website (and shop) changes for Heart to Home

Exciting times here at Heart to Home as we pour our collective creative efforts into both our website and our shop. We’ve got a great team behind us and, between us all, we’ve given the website something of a facelift. Have you had a look?

The idea is to make the website more visually appealing but also easier to navigate. Here’s what you’ll find next time you visit the Heart to Home website:

– new banners on the homepage, announcing our fantastic deals and bundles!
– new packages, which are products we’ve selected to complement each other – and then we’ve slashed the prices! Just take a look: not only are you getting a wonderful bundle of products with just one click, but you’re also getting up to £10 off! And, with our free delivery as standard, that makes a cracking deal. The bundles would make a great gift for someone setting up home, redecorating their kitchen or moving house.
– new ranges. We’ve had a reshuffle and developed some new ranges, including “Summer Garden”, which is full of lovely bold florals and strawberry-themed items. Well, if the weather isn’t going to play ball, we can at least pretend it’s summer!
– featured items. On the homepage, you’ll see selected items featuring on the front page. These will change with trends and seasons, but they will always reflect our favourites and yours, too! It’s a great quick-fire way to scan through Heart to Home’s popular items.

That’s not all! We’re also developing our first ever catalogue. We just can’t wait to send these out to you. All of us are working really hard to produce something beautiful to look at, interesting to read and great to flick through. We want our catalogue to be something you’d like to pass on to friends and family. It will be full of gorgeous photography and some great stories around our products. Watch this space!

The Heart to Home shop is also undergoing big changes! We are waving a fond farewell to Ripon, where we’ve traded happily for a while now. The simple truth is that we’ve outgrown our lovely little canal-side shop and we need to move on to bigger premises. We’ve found the most charming shop in nearby Wetherby – it’s all bow-windows and Georgian features – and we can’t wait to open our doors in a few months. We’re planning a special opening event and hope to get some coverage in the local press. Keep your eyes peeled!

Do head over to the website (or, if you’re in Ripon, pop into the shop) – we’re still there until further notice.

Collectable items for the kitchen and dining room

Collectable items for the kitchen and dining room

Are you a collector? Chances are, if you’re reading our blog, you have a penchant for pretty things and love to collect them for your own home. It’s OK, we won’t tell anyone. You’re secret’s safe with us 🙂

Creating collections of beautiful items is one of the things we love about running a shop like Heart to Home. Our shop is like one great big gorgeous kitchen, stacked high with the most gorgeous things imaginable: hand-painted crockery, limited edition linens and delicate gifts. It’s no wonder that many of our customers return to us again and again to add to their own collections.

Sophie Allport and Susie Watson collectables

Amongst our most collectable items are those from Sophie Allport (fine china with instantly recognisable designs and patterns) and Susie Watson (chunky, hand-painted pottery which is beautifully balanced and feels “just right”.) We find that these are the items which customers buy slowly, as single items or pairs, over a period of years, because they are building their own collection at home and creating the look they’ve always wanted. And we can understand that!

What about you? Do you collect anything? I’ve collected Halcyon Days ceramic boxes for years now, and I think I have between 50 and 60. People buy me them as gifts now (and my decision to collect them has been a saving grace for my husband!) I also love collecting antique silver salt pots.

If you’re interested in starting a collection of fine linens, limited edition items or lovely crockery, why not start with our ready-made bundles of items? They’ve been created with you in mind: matching sets of items including oven gloves, tea towels, aprons and tablelinen. And, to get you started, we’ve made sure each bundle carries a hefty discount! Enjoy building your own collection. It’s something which will become uniquely you!

Get in touch with us on Twitter and Facebook – we’d love you to say hi!

aprons, apron, gift, kitchen
I think it was when we were putting together our exhibitor stand for the Good Food Show (Live) this year that I realised just how many aprons we stock! (We even had to give them their own “stand within a stand”!) It wasn’t a conscious decision to stock so many different aprons but actually we’re rather proud of our selection. After all, Heart to Home is the place to find lovely things for the home, and the kitchen is the heart of any home.

Next time you need an apron – either for yourself or as a gift – take a look at our selection. When was the last time you considered buying yourself an apron? We say: go for it! It’s good fun to put on a cute, patterned apron and whip up a batch of your family’s favourite baked goods. Here are some of our favourite aprons:

Cupcakes and gingerbread range (aprons available for kids, teenagers, men and women)

Which of our massive range of aprons is your favourite? Don’t forget, there’s free postage on all our aprons (in fact, on all our items) when you order online. And everything you buy from us – online or in our shop – comes beautifully wrapped in pink tissue paper and ribbon. We don’t care if you’re buying it for yourself! You still deserve to receive a lovely package to unwrap!

Do head over to the website (or pop into the shop) to see our full selection of aprons for yourself. And you can always touch with us on Twitter and Facebook – we’d love to see you there!

Free postage on all Heart to Home web items!

We’ve been canvassing opinion on Twitter and Facebook and have decided to offer all our lovely supporters a treat: totally free P&P on anything ordered from our web shop! Do tell your friends. Now’s the time to click through to our website and have a look around. We’ve been hard at work putting lots of new items online in recent weeks and there are loads more to come (more than 70 new items at last count!)

You can search by popular items using the drop-down on the home page: choose from aga covers (great as gifts or for your own home), aprons (we have possibly the largest collection of aprons you’ll find!), egg cosies (quirky and cute), napkins (a household staple), oven gloves (top quality and lots to choose from), peg bags (great way to make a chore less boring!), table cloths (a lovely gift or great for brightening up the home), tea cosies (an essential element of a perfect cuppa!) and tea towels (another staple, doesn’t mean they have to be boring!)

We often get asked about our most popular items. These do change depending on the season and on stock, but there are some items which never fail to please. Some current favourites are:

Chickens! Anything with a chicken motif goes down well (we can understand why; after all, we love chickens too!) Have a look at our chicken mugs, jugs and linens here.

And sheep.

Sophie Allport strawberries and cream range. Perhaps it’s the lure of lazy Summer days, or perhaps you just love the sweet design. This crockery range is a winner.

Everybody’s favourite owl. Yes, he’s as popular as ever!

Stay tuned for a whole host of new items coming soon, including bold, vivid prints from Ragged Rose and gorgeous handmade crockery from Susie Watson. Everything you order from the Heart to Home website comes hand-wrapped (by Sandra) in our signature pink and gold tissue paper and ribbon, whether or not it’s a gift for someone else (we know how much we love receiving beautiful stuff in the post and we don’t see why you should miss out!) In the meantime, do explore our website (and tell your friends) – with free P&P on everything, there’s never been a better time!

Why are chickens so special to Heart to Home?

Why are chickens so special to Heart to Home?

We’ve already introduced you to some of the team: Margaret and Sandra, who run Heart to Home both at our shop in North Yorkshire and here online. However, there are a few other key characters you should get to know! Today we’d like to introduce you to some important ladies who have in fact had quite an impact on the items we’ve chosen to stock! Yes, it’s the Heart to Home chickens.

All five of the (real life) Heart to Home chickens live with Margaret deep in the Berkshire countryside. Their crockery counterparts live at our shop, adorning Sophie Allport mugs and jugs, oven gloves, tea towels and other linens.

Daphne and Harriet are the two older girls of the gang. These middle aged ladies are still in fine shape (remind you of anyone… cough cough?) and still lay lovely eggs; so many, in fact, that Margaret sometimes struggles to get through them all! Here they are enjoying the sunshine on an early Spring afternoon.

The three newer girls are Dotty (who is grey and speckled), Hilda (a Black Rock hen, named after Hilda Ogden due to her fiesty character) and Jemima (a sweet little russet girl). Jemima is adorable but very greedy and can certainly hold her own when there’s food about!

It’s not just the chicken-themed items which are popular in our shop. Anything to do with animals always goes down well, including our many cat-shaped items. And, yes, there is a real Heart to Home cat! Here he is: his name is Pickles and he’s nearly 13. Like most cats, he chooses his mood depending on… well, we’re not sure. Sometimes he’s a bit grumpy but he’s a lovely cat really.

To round up our flock, here’s the Heart to Home dog: Sandra’s lovely and lively spaniel, Tilly. Tilly loves being outside, exploring the countryside and getting muddy, wet, brambly or all three. Luckily for her, she lives up in North Yorkshire (where you’ll find our shop), so there is endless gorgeous countryside to be sniffed and explored! Here are our current doggy-themed items!

Do you have cats, dogs or chickens? We think pets make every day better. We’d love to hear about yours!
