Finding our own sense of style

country kitchen collection

How would you define your sense of style? Heart to Home has been in the business of supplying lovely furnishings for nearly two years now and, in that time, we think we’ve found a definite style of our own. We now head off to trade shows and fairs with a clear vision of the types of stock we want to source for our shop and our lovely customers. But it wasn’t always so easy!

When we first started out, the two of us would stock a bit of this, a bit of that. We had our specialist areas, of course (we’ve always been known for table linens, aprons, napkins and tea cosies!) but we never felt completely settled on a style. Put it this way: we couldn’t have described the Heart to Home style in one sentence, had you asked us to.

Now, two years on, it’s a different story. We know what works, and what doesn’t. We are confident in our ability to source and stock the items our customers will love, and we’re proven right when items fly off the shelves as fast as we get them in. It’s a lovely feeling!

It’s also a lovely feeling to open the door of the shop and turn on the lights and see a really cohesive, “put-together” collection of items for sale. There’s not one corner of the shop (or page on the website) which we look at and think “hm, but does it really fit?” Everything we stock is most definitely Heart to Home, and our customers know what they’ll find when they visit our shop or our website. We bring you beautiful, traditional, stylish items with a country-living feel and it’s interesting (and gratifying) to see shop visitors gravitate towards our most popular items time and time again.

It’s lovely to note that the things we like are the things you like, too! It makes it such a pleasure to help you find that perfect gift, or that lovely item for your own home. Voyages, Sophie Allport, Susie Watson… they are all wonderfully designed, beautifully made items and we’re glad you appreciate the quality as much as we do.

So, how about you? How did you develop your sense of style, and how do you shop for items and dress your home so your decor is perfectly “you”?

Christmas made easy with Heart to Home

Christmas made easy with Heart to Home

With only 40 days (or “sleeps” as our children would say!) until Christmas, it’s time to get thinking about gifts, decorations and table dressings.

Christmas is a wonderful time of year if, like us, you love making your home as gorgeous and welcoming as possible. In December, the home really comes into its own, providing not just a backdrop but an integral part of family gatherings, parties, meals and celebrations.

Here at Heart to Home we specialise in bringing you the loveliest items for the home, from dining room linens to kitchen crockery and everything in between. Since we opened our shop in Wetherby, West Yorkshire, we’ve been able to source even more wonderful items from British designers many of whom hand-craft, embroider and hand-paint the things you’ll find in our shop.

The shop will soon be decorated for Christmas, with a colourful window display in the bow window of our Georgian building, and the famous Heart to Home dining table dressed for Christmas Day. Away from the shop, the Heart to Home website is packed with Christmas gifts, matching sets and desirable items which are crying out to be given to friends and family. And, don’t forget, all items bought from our shop or website come wrapped in pretty pink tissue paper and for just £2, we’ll hand-wrap your item in a gold gift box with a cream and gold heart-embossed ribbon – perfect for gifts! The shop will be open 7 days a week throughout December so, if you’re in Wetherby, do pop in at 1b Church Street!

We thought you might find it useful if we listed what we think will be the most popular, sought-after items this Christmas, so you can jump the queue and make sure you give gifts which really delight your loved-ones!

British designer Sophie Allport’s range of lovely mugs make wonderful gifts. We’ve got loads in stock, and new for Winter 2012 are her range of dog-themed cups and mugs. Our pick of the bunch for Christmas gifts are “Walkies!” and “Sit!”, perfect for dog-lovers or anyone who enjoys the great outdoors.

Hand-picked kitchen sets
More and more customers are asking us to help them put together bespoke sets of items and we think this is a great idea for a gift. How about using an animal as your theme? We’d suggest our chickens apron, a chickens jug and mug and finally a chickens teatowel. Or you could have similar items in our popular Busy Bees range. What a lovely gift!

Tea cosies
Yes, tea cosies are very popular at this time of year and we think our owl tea cosy or cat tea cosy would make the most wonderful gift (to suit any budget).

Animal kitchen items
We stock a great deal of crockery, aprons and tea towels with animal prints and themes, and that’s simply because they are so very popular! They fly off the shelves at the Wetherby shop, are very popular online on the Heart to Home website and are always a hit when we exhibit at shows. We think our range of items with Busy Bees, chickens and dogs would make wonderful Christmas presents for animal lovers. Mr Pickles, the Heart to Home cat certainly approves. What do you think?

As for us? Well, we’ve already got the oven gloves, aprons and tea towels, so all we want for Christmas is for someone else to do the cooking for us! We can hope… 🙂

Do head over to Heart to Home the website (or, if you’re in Wetherby, pop into the shop). We’ll be happy to help you hand-select the loveliest Christmas gifts (and maybe a little something for yourself…)

Heart to Home opening event in Wetherby

Heart to Home interiors store opens in Wetherby with special event

Heart to Home shop wetherby

What are you up to on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th October?

That’s when our shop opens in Wetherby, and we’d love to see you there! We’ll be unveiling our fabulous ranges of (mostly) British designed kitchen and dining items, which include Susie Watson Designs, Sophie Allport, Ulster Weavers and Ragged Rose. Many are hand-made and hand-painted and all are gorgeous!

The shop will be moving to Wetherby from Ripon, where we were located close to the canal. Business has grown and we chose Wetherby as the ideal location for the new shop.

We think our style and the types of items we sell suit Wetherby shoppers and visitors perfectly. As you know, if you read the blog regularly, we spend a lot of time at shows and fairs, meeting designers and suppliers, choosing really gorgeous crockery and linens for the kitchen and dining room. We select things which we feel go together to make a really beautiful interior.

We can’t wait to open the doors of the new shop so the people of Wetherby can come and browse!

The new shop, at 1b Church Street Wetherby, will be opening with a special open-day event on the 26th and 27th October. We welcome anyone who lives in Wetherby or who is visiting at the time. It will be a good opportunity to have a look around the shop and browse our ranges, whilst enjoying a glass of wine and some nibbles! From our point of view, it will be a lovely chance to meet local shoppers. We strongly believe in creating links with the community and getting to know the people who come into our shop. That’s what we did in Ripon and it’s what we’d love to do in Wetherby.

Join us at the opening of Heart to Home at 1b Church Street, Wetherby on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th October 2012.

October update from Heart to Home: new shop and future plans!

October update from Heart to Home: new shop and future plans!

We’ve got so much to tell you about this month, I hardly know where to start! The biggest news is perhaps our physical move: we’re taking our shop (lock, stock and barrel) from Ripon to Wetherby. Those of you who follow us on Twitter and Facebook will have heard the news by now, but we can finally announce: we have a new home!

New shop and special opening event!

Our new shop will be at 1b, Church Street, Wetherby and you must come to see us! In fact, why not come on Friday 26th or Saturday 27th October, when we’re holding an official opening event. You’ll have the chance to look around the shop, see all our wonderful stock, chat to us about your home and decor favourites, and help us with the bottles of bubbly and trays of nibbles we’ve ordered in! We can’t promise that Mr Pickles, the Heart to Home cat, will be in attendance but we hope that Sandra and I will be sufficient!

Our pretty little shop was an antiques shop in a former life, and we just love the bow window on this Georgian property. It’s so us, and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve done with the interior.

So we’re busy ordering in stock, commissioning signage and inviting local people and members of the press along to the opening day. We hope to get a good number of the local community along, as we want to be a real Wetherby destination not just for beautiful homeware but for a fun, warm and welcoming shopping experience, too.

There’s lots going on behind the scenes, too: our catalogue is almost ready to be printed (it’s gorgeous). Our designer, Jon, has been very hard at work slaving away over the layout, our copywriter, Nicola has been penning lots of lovely words to describe our products, our photographer, Catherine, has done a great job of creating beautiful images and our marketing team headed up by Layla have overseen the whole thing. A job very well done, team!

There are also new flyers (for the Wetherby shop), new business cards (to go with our new logo – which we unveiled here) and lots of new activity on the website including fresh banners. Do check them out, it’s always worth a look to see what’s new, what’s on offer and what’s particularly tempting!

And we’re off to another show – Grand Designs Live at the NEC (12-14 October), which is of course connected with the TV show of the same name. We’ve been to the event before but never as exhibitors. You’ll find us in the Food Hall and we think it will be right up our street. Look out for a blog post about our Grand Designs Live experience! We’ll be taking all our favourite items, including lots of Sophie Allport, Susie Watson designs, the new Ulster Weavers gingham geese range, and plenty of aprons, oven gloves and tea towels. The stand is going to look amazing, we can’t wait for you to see it! Do come and say hello if you’re attending.

Do head over to the website or, if you’re in Wetherby, pop into the shop on 26th/27th October for our opening event! We’d love to see you.

All the latest from interiors shop and website Heart to Home

There’s plenty going on behind the scenes here at Heart to Home: preparing our stand for the BBC Good Food Show, moving the Heart to Home shop full of kitchen and crockery items from Ripon to the heart of Wetherby, and putting together our very first catalogue of lovely things for the home, which is chock-full of the most beautiful interiors and homeware supplies. Don’t worry, Mr Pickles the Heart to Home cat doesn’t need to move a whisker (he lives at home with Margaret).

We thought it was the perfect time to sit down with a hot cuppa (in one of our new Susie Watson mugs, of course) and bring you a round-up of some of the most sought-after homemade house items we stock both online and on the high street.

Our doorstops are always a real hit, both at shows like Burghley Horse Trials, spring fairs and food and home shows like the BBC Good Food Show. We stock this lovely goose doorstop, who is very appealing, and this lovely hedgehog doorstop who continues to confound Margaret with his popularity.

We also stock a lot of handmade items such as crockery, mugs and jugs, in particular our ranges from Susie Watson Designs. These fly off the shelves whenever we take them to shows and are just as popular in our Heart to Home shop.

Our animal prints, patterns and designs (on linens, crockery and fine china) are always popular and we are constantly adding quality items to our Animal Farm range. Take a look: amongst the cups, mugs, jugs, crockery, napkins and linens you’ll find black labradors, terriers, owls, bees, butterflies, chickens, sheep, bumblebees, horses and cats. Something for every animal-lover out there (and we know you’re all big fans of Mr Pickles… !)

The final category we’d like to highlight is our aprons. We stock a staggering number of aprons (we know exactly how staggering, since we’ve recently had to think about moving them all to Wetherby!) in every conceivable style, look and theme. There are frilly kids aprons, cooking aprons for kids, aprons for little boys (and big boys too!), bold patterned aprons, floral aprons, frilly aprons for women, and no-nonsense serious aprons for baking, barbequeing and cooking up a storm.

This is far from an exhaustive list of everything we stock for the home, kitchen and dining room here at Heart to Home, but we hope it gives you an insight into the most popular products we stock. Although Margaret says she’ll never understand the appeal of that hedgehog doorstop! We have to disagree….

Do head over to the website (or the shop) and keep in touch with us on Twitter and Facebook for all the latest news.

Heart to Home exhibit at Burghley Horse Trials 2012

Heart to Home exhibit at Burghley Horse Trials 2012

heart to home shop at burghley horse trials

Good morning! We’re just back from the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials where we were once again exhibiting within the Country Living Pavilion. What a weekend! We love this event: it’s usually the final “country” show of the year for us and a really exciting, fun and energetic crowd. This year was no different. Were you there? If so, we hope you had a fantastic time. If not, we hope our round up of pictures and stories will give you a flavour of what it’s like to visit Burghley. And perhaps we’ll see you there next year?

The Country Living Pavilion was home to lots of independent British designers and artisans, and we think our stand (and our ethos) fitted right in. As you know, we love to stock gorgeous designs and products for the home, from beautiful prints and linens to the loveliest ceramics and pottery. This year, we decided to give our stand a new focus, with our Susie Watson kitchen and dining room products taking centre stage. They went down very well! Sandra did a fantastic job not only of designing the stand but of actually putting it together, using Susie Watson fabric and pretty “British Summer” touches. We made sure to take lots of horse and dog-themed items with us, like this lovely horse mug and our black labrador ceramics range, which always go down a treat with the Burghley crowd!

The stand looked wonderful, very in keeping with the show, and everyone who visited seemed to enjoy spending time with us. We had some great feedback about the stand and the items we’d brought with us. In fact, some of the items were so well-received that we had to put in an emergency order at the end of the first day so we could restock

Now Burghley is over, we won’t be exhibiting at another show until November (The Good Food Show). But we won’t be resting on our laurels: we’ve got our first catalogue to finish off (it really is looking fantastic, and we can’t wait to send it out to you in the post or give it to you in the shop), and of course we are moving home! Our relocation to Wetherby is almost complete, so there will be lots of exciting work to do on the shop before our grand opening.

You can keep in touch with us here on the blog, or via Heart to Home on Twitter and Heart to Home on Facebook for more news, information and photos. Thanks for reading.

Exciting changes at Heart to Home!

Exciting changes at Heart to Home!

Apologies that it’s all been a bit quiet on the blogging front. We have been hard at work here at Heart to Home HQ working on a number of things – and we can’t wait to share them with you!

Heart to Home Logo kitchens linens gifts online
Heart to Home is rebranding

Firstly there’s our logo. Our existing logo of intertwined hearts is all well and good, but it’s just not cutting the mustard any more! We no longer feel it quite represents the quality of our products, the passion we put into our shop and website and the Heart to Home HQ brand. So, the old logo is on the way out and in its place is going to be this fantastic new design! Our design team came up with a few to choose from and we whittled them down to three and then – after some heated debates! – settled on a favourite. What do you think? We’d love your feedback.

Our first catalogue

Then there’s our first catalogue. We’re all so excited about this project. The photos have been taken, the copy has been written and the layout has been designed. We’ve even chosen the paper (who knew there were so many weights and thicknesses?) We truly believe our catalogue is going to be a gorgeous item, not just informative but a joy to hold in your hands and a pleasure to read. There are a few funny “behind the scenes” stories from the photoshoots…. most of them involving the unofficial Heart to Home mascot, Mr Pickles the cat. There are a few photos on Facebook if you’d like to pop over and look! That cat was always a diva but, with all the recent photography and social media activity, he’s getting much worse! He’s set to have an important role in the catalogue… wait and see!

Moving home…

Finally, we are moving! We told you a few months ago that we were moving our little shop from Ripley to Wetherby. Well, the contracts have been signed and the process is nearly finalised! So we’ll soon be moving into the gorgeous bay-fronted Georgian building in the middle of Wetherby, and we can’t wait to bring you lots of photos of the building, the interior, the window designs and our surroundings.

Thank you for following us on Facebook and Twitter, and for checking out the website. Do stay tuned during this exciting time for our business!

Website (and shop) changes for Heart to Home

Website (and shop) changes for Heart to Home

Exciting times here at Heart to Home as we pour our collective creative efforts into both our website and our shop. We’ve got a great team behind us and, between us all, we’ve given the website something of a facelift. Have you had a look?

The idea is to make the website more visually appealing but also easier to navigate. Here’s what you’ll find next time you visit the Heart to Home website:

– new banners on the homepage, announcing our fantastic deals and bundles!
– new packages, which are products we’ve selected to complement each other – and then we’ve slashed the prices! Just take a look: not only are you getting a wonderful bundle of products with just one click, but you’re also getting up to £10 off! And, with our free delivery as standard, that makes a cracking deal. The bundles would make a great gift for someone setting up home, redecorating their kitchen or moving house.
– new ranges. We’ve had a reshuffle and developed some new ranges, including “Summer Garden”, which is full of lovely bold florals and strawberry-themed items. Well, if the weather isn’t going to play ball, we can at least pretend it’s summer!
– featured items. On the homepage, you’ll see selected items featuring on the front page. These will change with trends and seasons, but they will always reflect our favourites and yours, too! It’s a great quick-fire way to scan through Heart to Home’s popular items.

goose doorstop nursery home gift free delivery

That’s not all! We’re also developing our first ever catalogue. We just can’t wait to send these out to you. All of us are working really hard to produce something beautiful to look at, interesting to read and great to flick through. We want our catalogue to be something you’d like to pass on to friends and family. It will be full of gorgeous photography and some great stories around our products. Watch this space!

The Heart to Home shop is also undergoing big changes! We are waving a fond farewell to Ripon, where we’ve traded happily for a while now. The simple truth is that we’ve outgrown our lovely little canal-side shop and we need to move on to bigger premises. We’ve found the most charming shop in nearby Wetherby – it’s all bow-windows and Georgian features – and we can’t wait to open our doors in a few months. We’re planning a special opening event and hope to get some coverage in the local press. Keep your eyes peeled!

Do head over to the website (or, if you’re in Ripon, pop into the shop) – we’re still there until further notice.

Keep in touch with us on Twitter and Facebook for all the latest news.
